Acer Iconia Tab A500 goes Android 3.2

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 08/24/2011 09:36 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet was off to a fairly promising start some months ago, and it looks like the next step forward, as far as software goes, is ready to be taken now that an Android update is being sent out as softpedia reports today.

By now, those interested in the goings on on the IT market, or at least some of them, will be more than familiar with the tablet segment.

Already there are a fair number of such products out on sale, as well as on the way to stores.

The former set is largely composed of products that are already to their first or second updates, as far as the operating system goes.

Since the coming of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, which was specially-tailored for slates, models running it have been getting optimizations, fixes and new features, though not every day of course.

The product now found to be enjoying this type of progress is a certain slate that Acer released a while ago.

Dubbed Iconia Tab A500, it did have the Android 3.0 on, but the Android 3.2 version is now about to reach owners, according to new reports, even though only Poland is, for now, seeing the process being carried out (for both products). Acer made sure that the Tab A501 also made the list of updating products.

It will bring along pixel scaling for apps, allowing programs designed for smaller devices to use the whole screen surface of the Tab 500.

The tablet should also see an overall performance improvement and synchronization of media from the SD card, when applicable.

For users that want a reminder, the Iconia Tab A500 is based on the NVIDIA Tegra 250 Cortex A9 ARM processor and was released back in April. It has 16 GB of storage, an SD card slot, a 10.1-inch screen and two webcams, plus Ethernet, WiFi, etc.
