According to Asus and Gigabyte, motherboard sales will fall by 25% this year.

According to Asus and Gigabyte, motherboard sales will fall by 25% this year.

Asus and Gigabyte, which together account for 70% of the motherboard market, have warned that they expect sales to drop by around 25% compared to last year.

While graphics card prices and availability are somewhat back to normal and component shortages are stalling, global inflation will affect other businesses. Asus and Gigabyte, who control 70% of the motherboard market, predict a 25% drop in sales this year.

Part of the decline may be because buyers no longer need to buy a new motherboard and will get a GPU. In a pandemic, businesses pushed wholesalers to bundle motherboards, such as an RTX 3080 with 7 mid-range or 3 high-end motherboards. Normal. Taiwanese PC industry sources believe the market will shrink by about a quarter this year compared to 2021. Q2 2022 shipments confirmed the projection. This drop was unexpected.

AMD's AM5 and Intel's 700 series motherboards won't boost the market, either. Some predict a fresh crypto mining boom might boost motherboard sales if inflation and the Russian-Ukrainian war end.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Just look how expensive they have become. The Intel Z690 boards are extremely expensive. I really do hope the Zen 4 motherboards don't follow in the same footsteps.

First hike up prices 25%, then complain about lower sales.

I think this is going to happen to every tech companie who sells harwdware.

During the pandemic, people spent lots of money on computers, consoles, TVs and so on because they couldn`t go outside.

Now the same people no longer need new stuff, because of all the stuff they bought in the last two years, and can go outside and travel, so they are going to spend money on travelling and such.

And for GPUs, the end of the crypto craze is going to have an even bigger effect.

I expect big sales drops to happen to lots of companies.

The exception could be Apple, because they seem to defy the laws of common sense...

^^^ This. Most people I know including me either don't need to buy anything new tech related because they already did it in past two years during pandemic or simply they won't because of unreal inflated prices of wanted stuff. For example around mid this year we had a plan to buy first car (used of course) for my older son because we're expecting he's going to travel a lot more from september because he studies (past year and so it was mostly online), those cars we're aiming at should be between €4500 and €5000 but with all crap happening today prices for those cars inflated quite a lot, now they're between €6000 and €6500. No way, just no, quite a good chunk of that money we're going to spend on propper summer vacation we couldn't have back in 2020 and 2021 the way we wanted and later during autumn or winter we'll se what's going to happen with used cars prices. If recession happens during next few months used car prices are going to plummet for sure.
