8-core Coffee Lake CPUs Are Surfacing in SiSoftware Database

8-core Coffee Lake CPUs Are Surfacing in SiSoftware Database

It's been topic of discussion for a long time now, next to the 6-core Coffee lake Core i7 8700(K), Intel will be releasing an 8-core part to be paired with the Z390 chipset (which Intel quickly removed from their website after posting it).

Intel has been looking for an answer to AMD's 8-core parts for a while now in an effort to release an 8-core part at a more mainstream price, yet is plagued by the swiss-cheese of vulnerabilities of Spectre and meltdown, and the new Spectre variants. It will be interesting to see how Intel will deal with that when the 8-core parts release.

The 8-core part now has surfaced in the SiSoft Database (Sandra) as posted by a user called momomo on twitter, that means that qualification samples are out and very likely, these will be shown at Computex to create some hype and virals. The CPU has been spotted in the SiSoftware database, an 8-core, 16-thread processor has been tested on a "Kabylake Client Platform.

You can see a listed CPU clock speed of 2.6GHz, suggesting that the unknown processor is an Intel test/engineering sample. Clock speeds are expected to be much higher. The cache sizes match as to what you should expect from Intel, 2MB of L3 Cache per processor core. Intel's use of a "Kabylake Client Platform" indicates one thing, it's a socket 1151 design alright.

Most likely still using toothpaste between the die and heat-spreader.

Let's see what Intel will come up with. As wavetrex mentioned, most likely toothpaste again and new socket in classic Intel style..... .

So far my bet goes for Zen 2, but hey, maybe there will be surprises

I do not think that regular toothpaste will do on this chip. They'll use some better TIM this time around. I am not betting on it having soldered IHS, but one never knows.

I was looking forward to this chip, but I honestly expect toothpaste as well. I don't want a chip with paste under the die. With how good the R7 2700X ended up, my current bet is to see what Ryzen 2 has to offer. I'm thinking it will be pretty damn impressive.

There's actually nothing wrong with the stock TIM. However, JayZTwoCents actually did a test with toothpaste for thermal paste and it worked quite well LOL
