3rd Gen Ryzen based Threadripper could be released in October - up-to 64 cores

3rd Gen Ryzen based Threadripper could be released in October - up-to 64 cores

We've seen and heard many rumors about Threadripper not being continued. With the new Ryzen 3000 processors up-to 16 cores you really already have a bit of a Threadripper at hand you know. Also earlier this year TR suddenly was not listed on AMDs roadmap.

From a consumer point of view, really such many-core processors hardly make any sense. However, there are workloads very well suited for them. Also, AMD is battling Intel in the HEDT segment, and to trump them they just might release a Threadripper after all.

All roads lead to Rome
See, for AMD it isn't hard to release a new 32 and/or 64 -core processor as they already have it. Much like previous generations, TR are in fact binned EPYC processors. With APIC Rome and it's spectacular 64 cores / 128 threads coming up, it could even be possible to support such a processor on X399 much like Ryzen 3000 on X470 for example. Then again, a new chipset was already speculated. Such a processor would get ZEN2 chipsets and 8 channels of memory, I can only call gargantuan. DigiTimes is not indicating that Threadripper based on ZEN2 might see the light in October, if true of course.

AMD's 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor is released first, of course, it is announced and will be available in September.

AMD already hinted that 3rd gen Threadripper going up-to 64C, listen Lisa Su and other AMD stuff - they all use : "....Move Up, Up" this refers that this Gen will move 2 steps above current 32C limit on TR, thus there will be 48C and 64C.
“If mainstream is moving up, then Threadripper will have to move up, up—and that’s what we’re working on,” Su said.

The interesting part will be the Chiplet/Cache config for 16c~32C parts:
16C 64MB or 128MB with 4 chiplets
32C 128MB or 256MB with 8 chiplets
In Epyc lineup they offer all the configs with diff cach sized due to num of chiplets used.

Also- looks like the Chipset will use the large I/O die from Rome- how they gonna cool 25~50W chipset?

P.S: Intel is already reacting in secter to upcoming EPYC/TR with "new" 240W TDP parts for extra 50% price increase:
