Intel has actually outdone AMD for product support. Support for HD2000 and HD3000 integrated graphics didn't even last 3 years.... Even AMD supports products for that long.

Isn't QuickSync already supported by HD3000? I encoded some videos on my computer some time ago and I remember it saying something about QuickSync being supported on my laptop.
That Windows 8.1 driver though... Intel support sucks.
Too bad intel hated i5-2500k/2600k with HD3000. no proper driver for win 8.1.
No QuickSync there.

Few weeks ago, I wanted to use it for live capture into decent file size. Works well at Win 7/8, but not at Win 8.1.
Tried all available drivers, even dll override and other tricks mentioned on encoding forums which solved issues for newer generations iGPs.
Edit: And thing is, that this GPU is paired with CPUs which people will use for quite some time as they have unlocked multipliers.

They have done that with quite a few products for 8.1. Even for most network cards they still release 7/8 drivers but no 8.1...
Cant say i notice much difference with these but then again i only have my 2nd display on intel for browsing and basic video viewing.
