Oculus are telling people to use this driver for the rift as newer ones are causing issues.
https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/62069/black-screen-on-rift-be-sure-to-use-nvidia-driver-388-59
"We are currently investigating an issue affecting Nvidia card users on newer driver versions and the latest Oculus app. If you have an Nvidia GPU, please be sure to install Nvidia driver 388.59 or you may experience black screens or other compatibility issue. Thanks."
Quick update on this issue, ManuelG has said on the nvidia forums that this bug has been found now & fixed & it will be in the next driver release.

This seems like the smoothest, most stable recent driver for Assassins Creed Origins on my 980ti. I've recently tested 388.43, 388.71, 388.84, 390.77 and 391.01. They often achieved slightly higher FPS with but I got various faults such as:
Stuttering
Clock speeds not returning to 2d on idle (although I even found on 388.59 that 3d clocks were running when Chrome was open, but I seem to have fixed this by switching to Adaptive power and restarting)
Random crashes back to desktop
and I occasionally lost response from a monitor coming out of standby in a multi-display set up and had to restart.
I've lost track of which driver gave what error. The 3d clock speed fault and losing response from a monitor in a multi-display set up, seem to be common re-occurring errors.
I'm not convinced that new drivers are properly tested on the 900 series anymore and I'm not impressed with the 390 and 391 series. I won't bother upgrading drivers again until I come across a game that says the driver is unsupported and then I guess I'll give it another go. But for now 388.59 is a keeper, smooth, stable, both displays working, and no constant 3d clock speeds (at least in adaptive power mode). But I've not tested it on many other games so far.
