You mean around when the 16.5.2 driver that this is a hotfix for was released?
You do realise it does take time for dev's to actually fix bugs?
I realise the driver shouldn't have been released in the first place.
Watch the performance gain in DOOM, this driver was obviously broken 1 week ago.
The fact that it was fixed so early after the release makes it feel unprofessional and poorly planified.

Yeah like software has never shipped with bugs before...Most AAA games now days have day 1 patches
The 16.5.2 driver was released 1 day before Doom... At least they found the issue and released the hot fix in under a week, which isn't a bad effort at all.

I still can't play Doom in any less of a resolution on my 4k monitor than 4k which causes it to run like ****. If I choose a lower res it shrinks the screen and puts it in the corner of my desktop. It is selected as fullscreen. I try to lower my resolution but then it ups it back to 4k and puts it in the same spot. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Don't forget that it's not as simple as dotting the i's and crossing the t's and immediately releasing. Any patches go through internal testing first, the date of the driver is just when the driver was compiled as a 'RTM' so to speak. Then there's the issue of testing it on every card etc, it's more likely they'd test with GCN 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 4.0, not each variation thereof. You think AMD and Nvidia test it on every device ID supported? um... no.
I think it's great they released this so quickly, hope they continue!
Let me put it another way, first people complain about not enough drivers, then they complain when drivers are more frequently released even if that means certain bugs are fixed quicker.
