I enjoyed The Callisto Protocol for its stunning visuals, sound and superb atmosphere but the game is sadly marred by annoying melee combat and absolutely abysmal optimisation.
My 20-core i5-13600KF CPU is hardly being used in this game and GPU usage is usually well below 100% as well yet the game constantly dips below 60 fps at 1440p on my RTX 3080 and has some awful stuttering too despite the game having been out for over a month with multiple patches since release. The developers just do not seem capable of (or maybe they just don't care about) optimising the game which is a shame because I think the potential was there for a spiritual successor to the Dead Space franchise.

With RT the RTX 4090 GPU usage is low at 4k, i think if the game is better optimized a RTX 4090 getting 25-30% more fps.

My demands for gameplay aren't that high. That's why I enjoyed Callisto very much despite some of the lesser aspects such as enemy variety and the kind of standard story. But lawd, does this game look good.
Still it shouldn't have brought my 4090 to its knees at 1440P DXR on with regular sub 60fps moments. Looking at your graphs things have improved since I finished it.

Nice review, pretty good read! Now, since you;ve done a horror themed game review, why not hop on to the next obvious game, Dead Space Remake?
