Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/07/2013 03:28 PM [ 136 comment(s) ]

We review the AMD Radeon R9-290. We'll benchmark these cards with FCAT Frametimes, Ultra High Definition and of course we'll check out game performance with the latest games next to power consumption and heat levels as well. This is one review you don't want to miss! The new second to best flagship product has been long awaited and anticipated. The Radeon R9-290 will compete with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 780. The card as such is a beast. As such this in-depth review will cover the Volcanic Islands GPU architecture, Hawaii for the 290 series.

Wow, 780 needs another price drop if this card is available for 350€.

So the 290 is more or less even with the 780 in performance but for $125 less.

This is what i'm thinking most will think as well. Same goes for the 780 honestly. Though i want to see some OCing results on better coolers. I have to see something that will be able to compete with a 780 around 1200 on the core or better. Because apparently classy's and HOF's are pretty much guaranteed to hit that or above. From what most tell me 1300+ on air is very common.

Nice review! Slightly underwhelming OC potential though....hopefully this will improve over the next few months with mature chips...who knows.

Btw Hilbert can you list the IC's used please, some of these AIB's are still offloading Elpida's leftovers.....it would help to know which cards have them...
