Asustor AS-5102T NAS review 5

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 04/30/2015 08:32 AM [ 8 comment(s) ]

A NAS unit armed with a smooth software DNA and priced competitive against the big guns in the industry like Qnap, Synology and Netgear; a year or two ago Asustor entered the market. We review the AS5102T NAS. We went blank into this review as we never had tested this brand before, but with very good hardware and an excellent software suite the AS5102T is not only a fast file server, it's also loaded with applications, streaming and HTPC functionality as well.

Hilbert, the chart with data size conversion is a little strange. 1 KB = 1024 bytes, but why is 1 MB also 1024(1MB = 1024KB I presume)? Same with MB row and KB and GB columns.

I must running older version as-604T in the office and amazing quality and performance. Wish you guys can review some of the AS70 series for some serious workload. They also added support for Virtualbox so you can run windows, mac and linux in the same box.

Combine the X and Y axis and you'll understand.

With large files and a fast enough HDD over a Gigabit connection you will reach 100 Mb/sec on read and writes, likely even higher. So for this type of connection, really it can hardly go any faster.

I jumped directly to check the conclusion and 100 Mb/sec is really scaring me ....

Check back page of "NAS performance", I think it should be 100MB/sec, right?
