Specifications and features

Traditionally, let’s start with some information from the manufacturer, specifically from the news release that we published on our page on 20 November:

“PATRIOT announced the release of their fastest kit ever of DDR4 memory today, VIPER STEEL SERIES DDR4 16GB (2x 8 GB) 4400 MHz. Built for the latest Intel and AMD platforms, the VIPER STEEL SERIES provides extreme performance and stability for the most demanding computer environments.

The VIPER STEEL SERIES DDR4 memory kit brings Intel XMP 2.0 performance to new heights and is able to achieve up to 4400 MHz with a simple setting on supporting Intel's latest processors and motherboards.  The VIPER STEEL SERIES utilizes a custom designed high-performance aluminum heatshield for providing optimal heat dissipation when overclocking and foregoing high-performance tasks. These hand-tested memory modules feature the highest quality memory chips and are running performance timings of CL19-19-19-39 at 1.45 V. VIPER STEEL SERIES DDR4 4400 MHz is optimized for PC enthusiasts, overclockers, or those who want to push their system's performance to the limit through the use of extremely fast components.

  • 16GB 4400MHz KIT

VIPER STEEL SERIES offers hardcore overclockers and budget-gamers a wide range of speeds and options as well as an outstanding performance from 3000 MHz up to the highest, 4400 MHz. The VIPER STEEL SERIES DDR4 is backed by a limited lifetime warranty and global technical support. Lead the way to extreme DDR4 performance with VIPER STEEL.”

VIPER STEEL features:

  • Gunmetal grey sides with diamond- cutting Viper logo / Black top
  • Aluminum heat spreader with unique and specific design elements
  • Compatibility: tested on the latest Intel premium/high-end platforms and i7 processors
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Ok, now we can take a look at what we have on the table. First up is Thaiphoon Burner, which is a very good utility for checking the basic data on a RAM die

According to the program, the chips under the “hood” are the Samsung B-Die (in 20 nm process), famous for their overclocking potential, so the default 4000 MHz shouldn’t be surprising.

As for the price, the MSRP is about 230 EUR. This is a reasonable price for a 4000 MHz 16 GB RGB memory kit with CL19. The chips are covered with a heatsink to ensure that the memory and PCB maintain a similar temperature, providing the best performance. You put the sticks in, enable the XMP profile (which is, in fact, the industry standard, and it’s hard to spot any RAM without this feature nowadays), reboot, and that’s it. Traditionally, we’ll kick off the review with some photo-shooting first, and then move on to the practical part (benchmark/games).
