Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 4000 MHz CL19

A (2x8GB) 4000 MHz Viper kit, is it an actually a steal?

Today we are reviewing Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 memory. This is a new variant of the Patriot Viper series, which quite surprisingly doesn’t have RGB support (unlike the Viper Gaming RGB kit that we checked out previously). I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that, as not everyone likes lighting in their PC. The set from Patriot that we reviewed last time was rated at 3200 MHz, and now we’re looking at something much faster. 4000 MHz does sound impressive, doesn’t it? But that’s not all. In this series, you’ll find memory as fast as 4400 MHz!

 

  

The kit that arrived consists of two 8GB 4000 MHz DDR4 modules. It’s one of many variants of this series. The other available options are listed below (and some new ones will come at the beginning of 2019):

  • 8 GB 3000 MHz (single module)
  • 16 GB 3200 MHz KIT
  • 16 GB 3866 MHz KIT
  • 16 GB 4000 MHz KIT (the one reviewed here)
  • 16 GB 4133 MHz KIT
  • 16 GB 4400 MHz KIT

Besides the first two models, the range looks very promising and overclocking-friendly because, according to the manufacturer’s info, it’s supposed to be based on Samsung’s B-Die memory chips.

The kit that we’ve received is not the fastest one in the Steel Viper series, but we are still going to try to squeeze something more from it (maybe even reach 4400 MHz?). Of course, you can always stay on the safe side and stick to the advertised frequency and latencies using the Intel XMP 2.0 memory profile. No QVL list has been provided as of yet. The memory is optimized for use with the latest Intel motherboards and processors, but there shouldn’t be any problem with AMD systems either. For our test, Patriot supplied a dual (2 x 8GB) gold DDR4 kit rated at 4000 MHz with CL19, which is ideal for a Z370/Z390 system (dual-channel).

At the beginning of 2019, we had an opportunity to check a higher-clocked kit from that series (4000 MHz), but the capacity was 2 x 8 GB. Patriot’s Viper Steel Series is offered at speeds ranging from 3000 MHz up to 4400 MHz, with XMP 2.0 support.
