OpenGL and Vulkan: DOOM (2016)
OpenGL: DOOM (2016)
Doom (stylized as DOOM) is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is a reboot of the Doom series and is the first major installment in the series since the release of Doom 3 in 2004. Doom's single-player mode has "badass demons, big effing guns, and moving really fast" as key principles, according to id Software executive producer Marty Stratton. The game features a large arsenal of weapons, which can be collected and freely switched by players throughout the game. Weapons such as the super shotgun and BFG 9000 return. Our default test is OpenGL at Ultra quality settings with SMAA 1tx enabled.
Recently however a new patch was made available enabling early beta Vulkan support. Normally we test at SMAA 1tx AA. However, ID software tweeted that ASYNC compute is not enabled in this particular AA mode. You need to turn it off or enable TSSAA 8tx for it to work, let's just do that:
As you can see the, perf with TSSAA 8tx in-between OpenGL and Vulkan for Nvidia shows no results. AMD cards benefit greatly from this feature though. We are collecting results and in the near future will offer both data-sets. Below, the OpenGL results, BTW there is a hard-cap at 200 FPS:
It is almost time before we can present you our full review of the GeForce RTX series graphics cards. But first we'll be taking an architectural deep dive into the Turing graphics processors, and o...
