OpenGL and Vulkan: DOOM (2016)
OpenGL: DOOM (2016)
Doom (stylized as DOOM) is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is a reboot of the Doom series and is the first major installment in the series since the release of Doom 3 in 2004. Doom's single-player mode has "badass demons, big effing guns, and moving really fast" as key principles, according to id Software executive producer Marty Stratton. The game features a large arsenal of weapons, which can be collected and freely switched by players throughout the game. Weapons such as the super shotgun and BFG 9000 return. We test this OpenGL title at Ultra quality settings with SMAA 1tx enabled.
Doom is an OpenGL game hence we test it as such. Recently a new patch was made available enabling early beta Vulkan support. Above the SMAA 1tx AA results. As you can see there already is a nice gain in perf. However, ID software tweeted that ASYNC compute is not enabled in this particular AA mode. You need to turn it off or enabled TSSAA 8tx for it to work, let's just do that:
As you can see the eprf with TSSAA 8TX is even higher, as it seems ASYNC compute is only supported in this AA mode or with AA disabled. ID software stated in a tweet that in a future update more AA modes will support ASYNC Compute in Vulkan. And then below our regular resutls with OpenGL 4.5.
