Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard
Glorious PC Gaming Race

Introduction

If you’ve been following the PC Master Race subreddit, reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace, you’ll understand why the Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard is a significant piece of gear. It’s hard not to be a little satirical and cheeky when talking about PCMR, but the Glorious people managed to avoid all that and produced a keyboard. What a couple of the forum members did is start a company around the PCMR joke, you must ascend from the console peasantry, and did something serious. Are they serious?

The Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard, or GMMK, is something special. It was announced on Instagram and a few keyboard forums, which qualifies for quite possibly the most niche and underground announcement I’ve ever seen. After 10 months of development, the GMMK is released, again announced in forums, and available on Amazon, and as a groupbuy on Massdrop.

What’s this all about, then? Despite its PCMR connections, the GMMK really isn’t joking at all. It features a sleek, all black, floating key design, red SMD backlighting, and doubleshot, backlit compatible keycaps. It’s naked of any obvious branding, but does come with a PCMR sticker. This all seems just about average for the average mechanical keyboard. However, the real trick here is that the MX compatible switches are replaceable. By putting the switches in a socket, Glorious made the chore of replacing switches a trivial thing to do. It’s brilliant, if not glorious. It also removes the risk of buying a keyboard with switches you may not like.

So, what makes the GMMK special? Let’s get into it!
