DLSS (NVIDIA GeForce RTX) and CAS (AMD Radeon 5000)

Death Stranding on PC will feature Nvidia DLSS 2.0 technology, as long as you have a GeForce RTX GPU installed. This means that the game can run with a frame rate over 100fps at 1440p, or over 60fps with a 4K image. DLSS 2.0 is the latest iteration of an NVIDIA's AI Deep learning algorithm that boosts frame rates while generating crisp and sharp game images. It whoever requires the investment of an RTX graphics card that has Tensor cores.

So the game offers two DLSS modes, performance, and Quality. We can wholeheartedly recommend using the Quality mode as it offers a good chunk of extra performance, as TAA is suddenly not applied and it just looks really good. Performance mode work well, here however you forfeit on image quality, and that's visible. A waterfall for example looks more blurry. So if you have an RTX card, quality mode ON, end of story (as the increase in your FPS is ginormous).

Fidelity FXCAS

On AMD's side, Death Stranding supports AMD's FidelityFX Contrast Aware Sharpening (CAS). A gratifying effect, but Death Stranding isn't merely applying FidelityFX for sharpening; it also does upscale. This is a post-processing filter that performs similar work as DLSS with the difference that you do not need an RTX card. The sharpening and upscaling dies seem to cause some shimmer, especially on things like your backpack this is noticeable. It's not terrifying, and it's a method to increase framerates that folks will inevitably appreciate, but the effect is noticeable. The gain in performance is huge though, 25% in 2560x1440.
