ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC 11 Gbps review -
Introduction
ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC with 11 Gbps GDDR5X
That h00t configured with faster memory
We have a new GeForce GTX 1080 review ready, and not your usual one. We review the new ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC, it has been fitted with the latest (and faster) 11 Gbps memory. This card is custom cooled and tweaked with super fast memory. Let's check out the new 8 GB model from ASUS, the GTX 1080 STRIX OC 11 Gbps with 11,008 MHz clocked memory.
Last year the full range of Pascal based processors was released, among them the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080. Both models honestly are equally impressive in their product positioning, though I do feel the 1070 will be the more attractive product due to its price level, while the 1080 cards are really what everybody wants (but perhaps can't afford). The good news though is that the board partners offer SKUs for less opposed to the Nvidia reference / Founder edition cards. Obviously the higher-end all customized SKUs will likely level with that Founder edition card price level again, but I am pretty certain you'd rather spend your money on a fully customized AIB card that is already factory tweaked a bit, opposed to the reference one.
So here is where ASUS falls into line, they launched a GTX 1080 located under the ROG branding these days. A product that has been totally revamped and designed all custom with a massive cooler, higher clock speeds and a back-plate with a configurable RGB LED lit ROG logo.
The board is fed by two power connectors. The GPU is clocked at a nice 1.696 MHz with a 1.835 MHz boost at default clocks. The GDDR5X memory has been tweaked with the new Micron ICs running 11.008 MHz (effective clock-rate).
That increases the memory bandwidth for this model by 10%. And yes, the GeForce GTX 1080 very much likes more graphics memory bandwidth. The ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC edition has a triple-slot design with triple-fan cooling solution. Embedded as well is some funky LED lighting system, everything about this product states 'premium' really. And yeah, we have enough to talk about and to show. Have a peek below and then dive into the review.
