AMD Ryzen RAM scaling - performance effect in games - Games performance – Two or four DIMMs

Games performance – Two vs. four DIMMs

Next thing to check – what’s the impact when using the 2x DIMM RAM vs 4x DIMM usage (setup in dual-channel) and also, using double Rank. The term “rank” simply refers to a 64-bit chunk of data.  A DIMM with DRAM chips on just one side would contain a single 64-bit chunk of data and would be called a single- rank (1R) module.  DIMMs with chips on both sides often contain at least two 64-bit chunks of data and are referred to as dual-rank (2R) modules. Single Rank Memory can be memory with chips on only one side of the memory module (stick of memory) or chips on both sides of the module as long as the chips are in one rank that is accessed while writing to or reading from the memory. Dual Rank Memory is basically like having two Single Rank chip ranks on one memory module, with only one rank accessible at a time.

It's almost 3% improvement when changing from 2 x 8 GB kit to 4 x 8 GB. Additionally, you gain about 1.5% on average when using the Double Rank vs Single Rank RAM. That's rather surprising isn't it? The biggest difference you can see is in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
