OCZ Vertex 2 Pro (SandForce) SSD preview

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/21/2010 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
OCZ has been on a winning streak with their SSD drives ever since that started selling Indilinx controller based products. Armed with that controller and a nice phat cache these SSDs show brilliant performance. Therefore it came as a total shock to all of the sudden see OCZ announce a new series SSDs with SandForce controllers. Apparently it's not needed with the SandForce controllers and that's where the true power of this product is to be found. Fantastic performing SSD drives without the need for a data-cache, saving on money while gaining performance. Too good to be true ? Let's find out. Read article

NVIDIA GF100 (Fermi) Technology preview

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/17/2010 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Last week we arrived at Sin City not only to cover CES but there was something else going on as well. In Las Vegas, NVIDIA had organized a briefing for a select group of the press. From Europe perhaps ten to fifteen people where invited for this somewhat privileged preview -- the topic, a technical overview of project Fermi. Fermi is of course the family name of the latest generation of GPUs from NVIDIA. The first chipset deriving from Fermi will be called the GF100 GPU which will likely be used on what we think will be called products like GeForce 360 and GeForce 380. Join us in a nice technology preview. Read article

Radeon HD 4750 RV740 review | preview |test

Let's meet and greet the RV740 graphics chipset, we think the product might be named Raden HD 4750. RV740 is positioned somewhere in the upper segment of budget level products. We are sure this product is going to be cheaper than 99 USD / 89 EUR. And considering where the product is targeted in the market, ATI is pulling rabbit out the hat with a head the size of an elephant. Read article

NVIDIA ION platform review | preview 3

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/02/2009 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]
A preview on NVIDIA ION. What NVIDIA has done with the ION is to create a platform that combines a GeForce 9400M chipset with an Intel Atom processor, all placed on a Pico-ITX PCB. The advantage here is by using such a chipset the environment (PC) will instantly gain modern features and the sheer influence of a GeForce graphics processor meaning you can playback 1080P movies on for example a Netbook or mini-PC. What we will be focusing on today will be the all new Radeon X1950 XTX. A product that is somewhat lined up against the dual-gpu solution called GeForce 7950 GX2, a product which offers great performance for a really okay price. So ATI figured .. hmm we can do better then that and even at a better price so they introduced the Radeon 1950 XTX, Specifications for the Radeon X1950XTX and X1950 CrossFire are finalized with a 650 MHz core clock and an impressive 2 GHz effective memory clock. NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Intel preview

Reason enough for NVIDIA to release the nForce 500 series for Intel's processors (Core 2 Duo as well). Today we'll be taking a brief look at the reference NVIDIA NFORCE 590 SLI mainboard. It by all means is test done with a reference board that is not 100% finished and unfortunately we did not receive a final product from a board partner like ASUS. Nonetheless .. even with this very Beta reference mainboard I was shocked by the combination of Conroe and NFORCE 590 SLI for Intel, in very positive way I must add. Read article

F.E.A.R. Preview

Posted by: Mike Sowerby on: 09/19/2005 06:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
As many of you will be aware, F.E.A.R (or First Encounter Assault & Recon for short) involves a rather mysterious looking girl in a red dress, a man with an unappetising taste for human flesh, and some rather flashy action set pieces al la' The Matrix. All of this is brought together by one of the best game engines around. There has been a great amount of talk surrounding this game of late, and as we here at Guru 3d aim to please, it was decided we would take a quick pre-release look at both single player and multiplayer aspects of this game, with some preliminary testing and benchmark results, to give you an idea of just what to expect, and whether your brand spanking new 7800GTX will be just as scared of that Girl in the Red Dress as you!
