Introduction
In this article we review the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 chassis. Nanoxia is a relatively new player in the chassis market, based in Germany they just released their Deep Silence 1, a very impressive chassis with some pretty terrific features. The DS1 comes in three models: Deep Silence 1 Silver Deep Silence 1 Anthracite and Deep Silence 1 White.
Nanoxia really is a company that in the past focused on ventilators primarily. The new DS1 mid-tower chassis is supposed to separate itself in the market with efficient cooling and low noise. As you'll find out, the bigger part of the chassis has been coated with sound dampening materials.
The DS1 chassis are delivered with three fans of which two are 120mm rates at 1300 RPM. At the backside a 140mm fan is located, again 1300 RPM. Optional you could house additional four 120/140mm fans located at the top, lower compartment and side panel.
Though being a mid-tower, the chassis has plenty room available. You can no less than eight drives, either 3.5″ or 2.5″ including the spacing that also acts as an external 3.5″.
The case is a mid-tower supporting up to ATX motherboards in size. Nanoxia use steel and plastic materials to construct this case which weighs in at 11.34kg. The maximum length of graphics card that can be installed is 31.5cm (12.4″) with the hard drive cage installed or 44.5cm (17.5″) without the hard drive cage. The back of the case features 8 PCI expansion slots and the entire case features generous cable management routing features. The front panel includes two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports as well as the standard audio jacks.
What's interesting about the design is that is is loaded with hidden features, for example at the top you'll find a switch, flick it and part of the upper segment of the chassis will rise upwards, allowing to vent the chassis more quickly -- this feature is called a chimney.
We test the standard black with its great looks and sound dampened version. As you'll notice very little is actually regular about this chassis, is it true what they say about German build quality?
