MSI GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO review 5

In this review, we benchmark the GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING X Trio from MSI; yes MSI is back with a new Gaming X Trio, with that TRIO, of course, short for a triple-fan solution with an otherwise heavily customized product. With their aim to perform at low acoustics combined with a beautiful design card, lets start this review, shall we?

There are already reports that Ampere cards (even 3080/3070 not talking about 3090) will be difficult to find in stock for at least a couple of months - and a consequence of this is price increase by shady merchants...

Maybe 2080Ti owners trying to flog their cards fast will a) actually sell them now or b) decide to keep them now

I don't think it's miners or 'desperate people', just ordinary folks looking for a good deal.

So wait. If there are three eight pin connectors on the card would that theoretically mean that it could potentially draw up to 525 watts with a proper BIOS? Being that it it is 450 watts for three eight pin and 75 watts for pci-e bus? I am just trying to figure it out ahead of time and prepare myself for the 3090!!

If anyone can answer it would be a great help...
Sounds about right. The new 12-pin connector I think is supposed to carry roughly 650W (varying sources say different things but that seems to be the "safe number" based on the per-pin specs). I don't think the 3090 is supposed to get anywhere near that high, but the power cable was developed for future needs. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3090 does actually warrant the 3x 8-pins, at least when overclocked.

Personally, I don't like how the new 12-pin increases the wire gauge specs. Most 12v wires are supposed to handle 5A. This power connector is spec'd to carry 9.5A. Not only does this complicate the manufacturing process of PSUs (thereby making them more expensive) but it basically just gives GPU manufacturers the freedom to give efficiency a lower priority. I don't want triple-slot GPUs to become the norm.
