HP (rather associated with pre-built PCs) is not a new competitor in the market of SSDs. For example, Hilbert checked their SATA and NVMe models in 2020; those were not the first ones from that brand covered on guru3d. This time, it’s an FX900 model we’ve received in a 1 TB variant. It’s manufactured with the assistance of BiWin and comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. It’s aimed at the gamers, according to HP, and it would be fair to place this drive between “entry” and “mid-tier” levels.

i like it. not enough manufacturers are making small (boot) drives under 1Tb
the 256Gb should be $45-60. i have my eyes on it for my next boot in a build.
Amazon first 3 pages are like this................. Do not see a lack of cheap NVME 250gb boot drives. I paid $47 for my 256GB NVME in my threadripper in 2020.....

yes, but competition is good - notice the extreme lack of pcie 4.0 small volume drives as they cashed in right away...makes me wonder about pcie 5.0 as well

PCI 4.0 isnt really much of a need for a boot drive. I havent noticed much difference from my 960 evo 250gb pci 3.0 vs my Aorus 500GB Pci 4.0 as boot drives.
Now direct storage will be a total difference.
And I support competition as always. I loved my samsung 960 evo 250gb but when I bought it, it was $125 on sale. That was not cheap.

yes, i had to talk a couple of people down when advising (co-building) their rig. it's easy to get folks to pay the premium to have the same brand. they all wanted "the latest" and thought i was a squirrelly geek (no comment) when i was steadfast at mix n' match volume sizes and brands
