Depends massively on demographics. User data of Guru3D visitors, out of the past three months show in resolution:
Ranking resolutions:
1: 1920x1080
2: 2560x1440
3: 1280x1024
18: 3440x1440 (1.39% of the visitors)
43: 3840x2160 (0.38% of the visitors)
Ehm, I think you grossly overestimate the significance of 3440x1440, and 1080p is not less relevant at all. The reason I don't test 3440x1440 is that I need to draw a line somewhere in reviews due to time. Every and any user will have a request that personally suits him or her circumstances the best. That's understandable, but for 3440x1440 would mean switching monitors all the time, rebooting, launching game .. etc it eats away so much more time.
Some might say, others not of course, that 1080 is less relevant nowadays when compared to 3440?

And this is one of the reasons why the gaming industry is not innovating as it could and should. Release a DLC of a 2016 game with few bugs and people is like "yes please take my money" (and this could apply to all the copy/paste games like Assassin's creed or fifa too); try and release a new IP, refreshing and with a massive beautiful open world with some bugs in the first month after release (cp2077?) and people creates a shitstorm about it beacause it's good but not as good as they dreamt.
I must say I'm quite disappointed with "final words". I think your final conlusion is a bit shallow. It's been 4 years of hitman games and people still dont realise what you get with 6 levels in each game. An average gamer who likes stealth games can easily achieve 50-60hours of playtime in each game. Ask yourself, anyone who reads this. How many games in past years did you play which had almost zero bugs, tehnical issues and above else didn't have dogsh*t AI on release date? I think we should appriciate more what IO did with pc port, because there are less and less games with this kind of quality. I won't comment on epic game store fiasco with H2, that deserves another thread.

To get any kind of interest back into this franchise i need a fresh original start, with way more storytelling.
Back in 90s/early 2000s the Tomb Raider games were just that, they gave you just a minimalist story telling to give you a purpose for the current actions you're expected to perform, and Hitman to this day seems to stick to this.
Modern Tomb Raider games you have partners (Jonah Maiava + NPCs you meet along the way), you have a deep Background story often revisited in flash-back, you have freedom of movement for a good part of the game...
I want them to dive deep into the creation of the lore and world of the Assassins, with meaningful interactions.
Put me in a John Wick assassin universe, with a lore, with charismatic characters i'll build a relationship with over time, engage with.
Why would they do that when they can keep the same game of 2016, add some maps and put a full price on it? The only way to force them into something new is stop buying DLCs for more than, let's say, 20€$. They don't even bother improving graphics (and you can see that from the performance benchmarks, same numbers as 2016). Same mechanics, same graphics, almost no story. Just some new assets put in their good level editor in just SIX levels, but you can kill the same dumb target in 10 ways so they are 6*10=60 levels, yeah right...

Always nice to see when a techsite updates outdated charts after a new driver release. Something that simply isn't possible in Youtube videos.

LOL, I think I saw Hilbert include a NVidia 580 in one review, stopped using one (I should say 3) of those in 2013! Those great days of SLI & TRI. Some might say, others not of course, that 1080 is less relevant nowadays when compared to 3440? If your gaming benefits from the highest FPS possible then 1080 still valid but Hilbert regularly tells us not to bother with newest top cards with 1080. Here are 3440 FPS results for the FE 3080:
