G.Skill TridentZ 5 DDR5 5600 CL36 review

Posted by: Krzysztof Hukalowicz on: 03/15/2022 05:04 PM [ 10 comment(s) ]

G.Skill has prepared very well for launching a new memory standard and has presented three DDR5 series: the Trident Z5 (5600-6400 MHz), the Trident Z5 RGB (the same range as the non-RGB’s), and the Ripjaws S5 (5200-5600 MHz). They all come in 32 GB kits (2x 16 GB), and their frequency is higher than the base 4800 MHz. Today, we are checking the G.Skill TridentZ5 5600 MHz CL36 DDR5 kit. It’s not the high-end of the series, as even the 6400 MHz CL32 are available, and the 5600 MHz is the lowest frequency you can get from this DDR5 family.

z690 does support 4 sticks, but there are caveats involving the ranks per dimm and clock rate limitations to mitigate bus noise

DDR5 should have been skipped for 6 and its PAM4

Now try 4 sticks of that stuff and see if you can run at XMP.

Try
VENGEANCE® 64GB (4x16GB) DDR5 DRAM 4400MHz C36 Memory Kit

, and it works....

Or buy 5200 2x32GB kit.

2x 32GB Dell hynix is working at 6000mhz ;)

I was thinking of building a new PC when AMD releases their DDR5 compatible CPUs.
But those prices and performance gains don't really make it appealing at all.
I'll be sticking to my 3700x/5700xt for some time I think.

I really doubt there's any reason to upgrade to anything from that anytime soon - maybe you could spill on a 5800X3D or something, but it'd probably only net you minor gains at 1080p if you even use that resolution. I feel that any modern title GPU limits me on the 5700XT.

I'm on a Gigabyte X370 MB, so they'd have to release a BIOS for that. But I don't really care, my work is done without problems, and since I'm on a 2560x1080 monitor, the 5700XT is enough for gaming. I'm not an FPS freak, smooth gaming is what I care for.
