We review the Gigabyte Radeon R9-290X WindForce 3X OC edition. A lot of you guys have been waiting on a custom cooled version of this product. Armed with the latest revision of the WindForce 3X cooler and will get that 2816 Stream processor based Hawaii chip with and 4 GB GDDR5 memory running along a 512-bit memory interface. The WindForce 3X card will be equipped with a fully custom PCB design. The card is powered through 8-Pin + 6-Pin power configuration and obviously runs at factory overclocked specifications. The card can Boost towards 1040 MHz and is clocked at reference clocks on the GDDR5 memory.

Page 30:

Cooling & Noise Levels

So where the reference cooled products are to be considered really average at 95 Degrees C, the WindForce 3X cooler does make its promises worthwhile on everything. This revision is a dual-slot solution looks great. The PCB is customized and I can spot merely quality components, lovely. Two subtle and silent fans combined with a hint of red makes this a good looking package alright. Great looking and very sturdy I must state as well, there is a metal plate at the top of the card so the card can not bend when seated horizontally in the PC. We measured a top stress temperature of 83 Degrees Con the card (Quiet mode), coming from 95 Degrees C on the reference coolers. Next to that, the card remains to be extremely silent in Quiet BIOS mode. So that is simply put a massive improvement over the reference cards.

Page 11:

ASUS Radeon R9 290X DCUII OC - The temperature under heavy game stress for the card stabilized at roughly 77 Degrees C, a lot better than 94 Degrees C for the reference model alright !

Small mistakes there. ;)

Yes, did you actually read the article ? Page 4 and the conclusion.

Thank you Hilb. I was in a hurry for work and I kinda speed-read through it and missed the "fixed" part. And I also had side-by-side(2 broswer windows) the Palit 780Ti Jetstream review and was comparing page by page.. :D

Do you know if this is one of the cherry picked gpu's sent out only to the review sites?
Or, is this card typical of off the shelf versions?.....

This was a production sample, not cherry picked.

What the boss said..
