Codemasters F1 2021
PC graphics performance review and analysis with 40 GPUs

We look at F1 2021 from Codemasters, well EA these days, in a PC graphics performance and PC gamer way. We'll test the game on the PC platform relative to graphics card performance with the latest AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Many graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked. Last year in the 2020 edition in a patch Codemasters already introduced DLSS to boost performance a bit more, this year raytracing has made an entry as well. So what's it gonna be? Mercedes, Red Bull, or perhaps Ferrari? We look at Codemasters F1 2021 in a PC graphics performance and PC gamer way. We'll test the game on the PC platform relative to graphics card performance with the latest AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Many graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked. F1 2021 is an ongoing series in the racing video game developed and published by Codemasters/EA.

Yes, the British racing game specialists (Codemasters) have been absorbed by the ginormous publisher EA, but the team still adheres to the original line of the game we can happily report. F1 2021 provides various innovations, especially the "Braking Point" career/narrative mode is noteworthy, and of course, visuals have been enhanced now adding Raytracing in the form of shadows and reflections.

Raytracing and DLSS as optional features

F1 2021 is based on the in-house engine of Codemasters called EGO, and it has again been improved. In recent years, the Game Engine was DirectX 11 and DX12 compatible with Grid (2019), F1 2019, and F1 2020. Now the game solely works on DirectX 12 to make new technical breakthroughs more comfortable and more seamless. The system requirements remain moderate apart from the Windows 10 requirement. Only those who want to see all the visual effects in maximum quality will need a modern PC and, above all, a graphics card suitable for ray tracing ergo the GeForce RTX series or a Radeon Series 6000 or newer graphics card. You will be driving on 21 of the 24 official Formula 1 racetracks for now with the release. The three missing tracks will appear later with an update. So that you don't run out of breath during the season, you set the duration of the races and the number of routes before the season begins.

Big gains for AMD with the Radeon Adrenalin 21.7.1 driver

On release day a number of websites have published articles on this title, all of them used an older 21.6.2 driver. However with the release of 21.7.1 AMD mentione3d the following in their release notes,

F1 2021 - Up to 6% increase in performance in F1 2021 @ 4K Ultra High settings with Raytracing enabled, and up to 26% increase in performance @ 1080p Ultra High settings, Raytracing disabled.

As it turns, out, that is AMD was not joking, the performance metrics jumped up insanely with the 0-day release driver. That's for standard DX12 settings (shading/rasterized). In Raytracing performance, things turn around in favor for NVIDIA,  but AMD still managed to do well even there. you need to understand the significance though, if at Full HD a grap[hics card rendered 200 FPS on average, this driver turns that into 250+ FPS all of the sudden.

Many graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked.  You are going to need a reasonably modern PC with at least a mainstream graphics card to run the game nicely.  This article will cover benchmarks in the sense of average framerates, we'll look at all popular resolutions scaling from Full HD (1920x1080), WQHD (2560x1440), and of course Ultra HD. UHDTV (3840x2160) pixels which is four times as many pixels as 1920x1080.  We test with the game based on the optimized and available AMD Radeon driver (download) and for Nvidia their GeForce WHQL driver (download). We'll test the game on the PC platform relative to graphics card performance with the AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers.
