With six performance cores and hyper-threading, the Core i5 12400 might be the most desired budget-friendly and properly performing Alder Lake series processor as a gaming platform. It offers heaps of tier1 performance, can be tied towards DDR5 memory and a cheaper B660 chipset.

Considering 5600x came out more than a year ago its bound to be beaten by a next gen i5. It would be silly and embarrassing not to.
It would be interesting seeing how it stacks up to new upcoming ryzen cpus tho.
the real competitor to 5600x is 12600kf
the fact that 12400 buries it is kinda expected given how far ahead 12600kf was
it's not that it's uncommon,it's more about amd just insisting to keep the 5600x at msrp
intel sold 10600kf's at 30-40% discounts when 5600x came out.That's what they were worth.Even 10700kf was cheaper than 5600x.amd doesn't care.No 5600 non-x,5600x still at msrp.And with 12400f even 30% wouldn't be fair,that thing needs to go down 50%.It's slower than a 180usd cpu and lacks pcie 5.0
not a value per dollar company anymore,and for a while already.that stuff ended with 3600.
maybe they're gonna price 5600X3D at 250 and give intel a ribbing again

I think they’re going all in AM5 now. Their reluctance to drop MSRP across their now very much overpriced Zen 3 range seems to suggest they aren’t interested in competing on price, or even competing with ADL at all.

We should start seeing leaks soon. Considering most ADL leaks ended up being very close to actual performance, we'll know all there is to know about Zen 4 well before they're announced. The 5800X3D will end up being a gimmick that's going to be forgotten quicker than you can say Cedar Mill.
