Is the second Ryujin better than the first one?
Today, we are reviewing an AIO cooler from Asus; it’s a Ryujin II 360. According to Japanese mythology, Ryujin is the deity of the seas and oceans, quite a fitting name for a water cooler. The presented product is a second revision of a cooler that we’ve already had a chance to check (along with a Ryujo 240) – previously; it was named (just) Asus Ryujin 360 (but we also had an opportunity to test the 240 mm variant). It has earned the “Top Pick” award, but the market has changed in these last three years, and the main feature of the Ryujin, meaning – a large display (here it was an OLED), has been introduced in several other products from the competition. Will the new revision be as successful? We’ll see on the coming pages. For now – let us present the main features of this LCS cooler and the differences compared to the predecessor.
The Asus Ryujin II 360 (there’s a 240 mm variant available and the 360 mm ARGB) again has three Noctua NF-F12 InductrialPPC 2000 PWM units with a fan speed ranging between 450 and 2000 rpm. The maximum airflow is 71.6 CFM. The noise levels do not exceed 29.7 dBA (but you should remember that almost all manufacturers measure this with their methodology, so you can’t make direct comparisons). Regarding the dimensions, the radiator size is 121 x 394 x 27 mm, it’s made from aluminum, the 380 mm long tube has a sleeved rubber used. There’s also a VRM fan, which can rev up to 4800 rpm and provide 19.41 CFM.
The new variant has a significantly larger display in the pump cover, but this time, unfortunately, it’s not a (1.77”) OLED, but it’s a 3.5” LCD. It has AIDA64 Extreme monitoring support, and there’s a one-year subscription also provided. It’s possible to set up the display using the Asus Armoury Crate, to have the time, CPU temperature, or custom graphic/logo. The cooling manufacturer includes an external controller for setting up the lighting and the fans. It is no longer done internally in the pump housing. The manufacturer, as mentioned before, has retained the use of Noctua fans. A 7th generation pump unit from Asetek is used here. The Asus Ryujin II 360 is compatible with the following CPU sockets:
- AMD – AM4, TR4* (The mounting bracket is bundled with TR4 CPU Package.)
- Intel – LGA 1700, 1200, 115x, 2011, 2011-3, 2066
We want to underline that now we’re using the Alder Lake processor to check the cooler (previously, there were Intel Core i9 9900K and the 10850K). We’ll check if this AIO will handle the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and Intel Core i9 12900K? The price for Ryujin II is about 340 EUR. Yes, it sounds steep at first look. But, will it be worth it?
