ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q GSYNC Gaming Monitor review 5

Join us as we review the ASUS Republic Of Gamers Swift PG278Q GSYNC gaming monitor. NVIDIA has announced GSync but 3rd party monitors with that GSYNC module have been hard to get. ASUS outs their second GSYNC compatible monitor, this round they do it with a nice 27-inch WQHD display that can handle a 144 Hz refresh rate and has 1ms response time. The downside, it is a TN screen. So how good is it really ?

Hilbert, I don't see any mention of Nvidia's ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur).

Do you prefer it over G-Sync in certain games?

Regarding GPU support, does ULMB work with AMD GPU's? If so is it limited to refresh rates lower than 120Hz?

(I don't plan on buying an AMD GPU with this monitor, just curious)

Have not had the time to play around with it just yet. Sorry. But short answer, yes. Also, I doubt you'd be spending cash on a G-Sync monitor and then use an AMD Radeon graphics card.

Hilbert great review as always!

I have this monitor on pre-order and I am curious why you have said a 6400dpi mouse is a requirement for G-Sync, can you or someone else please elaborate on this?

Thanks

It is actually an Nvidia recommendation. The 1000 Hz polling rate is most important though to prevent mouse-lag. With the dynamic refresh rate a fast mouse is gonna be really precise control wise. Up-to a level you never experienced. I can confirm that, gaming with a fast mouse 'feels' incredibly good and lag-free.

ULMB will work with AMD cards at any refresh rate. Of course, the higher the refresh rate, the better. However you can't have ULMB and G-Sync enabled at the same time.

As for which one is better, that's subjective. I prefer G-Sync over ULMB for everything.

TBH if paying that much for a screen I'd want a bit more flexibility, personally.

Well, you pay 150 for the G-Sync unit basicly.

It's G-Sync what makes the price.

It's why advice people to wait for DisplayPort 1.2a Monitors with Adaptive Sync instead. Ofcourse these Monitors still need Hardware adjustments, but it wont cost you 150 extra.
