ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ Monitor review 4

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 03/26/2019 08:47 AM [ 23 comment(s) ]

In this review we will take a look at something really wide, the ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ is a Hz VA panel based monitor at 3840x1080 with a HDR400 rating as well. This Ultra-Wide Screen 32:9 monitor can push 144Hz and it is FreeSync 2 certified. That eliminates stutter and tearing while gaming in HDR.

Great review, but what is wrong with the contrast measurement? Any VA panel has at least 2000:1 but this one has only 690:1? That is worse then any LCD from 15 years ago.

Correct. Looking into what happened there and have removed the chart plot for the time being. Unfortunately, the monitor was already shipped back to ASUS. I will provide an update on contrast though.

I have to return similar Samsung C49HG90, 1080 vertical resolution is unbearable in desktop use, and pixels are soooo visible, my 2 cents

Super-wide alright. But super-narrow (1080p) kills it for me. 3840x1440p would be nicer, though dont think any exist yet. LG has a 3840x1600 at similar price, would rather have one of those.
