It's time for another ZEN3 review, this time something extra special for gamers. It's the much-discussed Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The CPU, which is on many people's radar, features eight cores and sixteen threads, but is coupled with a large 96MB L3 cache, which would boost performance for games, regaining AMD's advantage over Intel's Alder Lake processors such as the 12900K.

I already know what they're going to say: "The 12900K should run at faster RAM!" even though in most tests, it defeats the 5800X3D by a wide margin. Even the 5800X is a more sensible choice, if gaming isn't your main priority.
It hardly makes sense to spend $100+ more on the CPU itself and probably another $100 on faster RAM, for an indiscernible increase in framerate (when we're already talking framerates that, in some cases, are faster than any display can render). Once you get to 4K, the differences hardly matter. You might as well just get a 12400 if you're going to play at 4K and save yourself a huge wad of cash for no noteworthy loss in performance.
i wonder what intel fanboys are going to say this time? AMD won back the best gaming crown. The cpu delivered what it was intended for,gaming.

IMhO Better overall and future proof (1440p & 4K) is to snag 5900X or 5950X
Make DDR4 @ 3800-4000MHz and sail like there's no tommorow ....

i suggest you wait six months for the R9 7950x which will be OC-able/ or get one of the 2-3 models w/3D cache with R4

Hardware unboxed tested the i9 12900k and ks with fastest ddr5 6400 and the 5800x3d did great. i am super impressed.

Found a store in Portugal that already has the 5800X3D for sale, at 520 euros.
