AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Review 5

We review the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Processor. The 8-core processor will be tested on an X370 motherboard. AMD's most high-end processor SKU really is a top dog being an AMD enthusiast class eight-core processor!

1st

Lets see this mofo!

Edit: lol

Well looks good and all just shame its not so OC'able. 4.4 or even 4.5ghz would look much nicer.

Excellent review as always. Just scimmed trough it, but it looks to be on par with my current CPU in single thread, but destroys in multi thread.

Damn, that 1080P gaming performance. Looking forward to seeing a wider range of games.

Of course, working on 1700X as we speak ... however flu and fever kick me in the ass right now.

But if you plan to go Ryzen and need an advice, the 1700X is 100 bucks cheaper with very close and similar perf. 1700 sample is still pending though.

Can you set a multiplier per active cores as per the intel K-series chips? Or is it just one fixed max multi for everything?

Thank you for the review hilbert, I just woke up and saw on my phone its March 2nd ryzen is out! Lol. I was very very impressed with the review,a little dissapointed in the gaming benchmarks but even as it stands now its so close to intel it dont even matter- hell yeah is for real? I feel like its a dream or something, someone sliap me haha. I am interested in the 1700 ryzen, 500 or even 400 is to much money for me to put down on a cpu, that or I will wait for 6/12 ryzen. Thanks again HH.

No the MP is tied per CCX thus per 4 cores. I explain this in the conclusion page actually. Right now you clock all cores the same, I however expect support for a multiplier per 4 cores in due time.

Awesome review boss, kudos for your hard work.

Ryzen turned out to be better then I was expecting, let's see what improvements are still to come.

I'm shore they will improve here and there as soon as more mature BIOS versions will be available! Damn as somebody said already above, looks like a dream come true...almost cannot believe it but here it is!!!

Cannot say loud enough but Lisa did for AMD what Steve Jobs did for Apple back in '97... :infinity:

Rushed through the review, great value indeed. Was expecting it to OC a bit better, like in the 4.4-4.5ghz range, but still nice.

Personally will still stick with what i have, will wait for the next gen from intel/amd. Ryzen made ripples now, it should affect how things will move from here.

Amazing review, thanks a bunch. One thing I can't seem to find though: how does this CPU overclock on air? Does it OC well? Or rather not?

Looks solid. I'll wait for more reviews. Gaming performance seems sub par, looking at this review and other sites too. Hmmm.

Great Review Hilbert ,
Maybe as motherboard Bios mature with better firmware updates we will see a performance increase in the gaming benchmarks .

All in all it's a great show for AMD and this is what we all needed as consumers ,Intel will now have to stop the insane prices now there is a real alternative on the market.

Would have been nice if there was just a little more headroom with the overclocking ..

If i was looking to upgrade , i think i would find it hard not to buy this AMD cpu .

Yup... very nice review.

I am still waiting for 1700 reviews, but that will be the chip of my choice for my DMZ multipurpose rig. $329 all-round carefree package...

Btw. 1800X hit 5.8Ghz on LN

Well it is a good performance for value, if you are not an overclocker or die hard enthusiast. Unfortunately the early reports of 5.1GHz@1.8V@LN2 were correct.

To me, 4.1GHz@1.5V on water, built on a 14nm tech is serious disappointment. I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer. Good chip but nothing special.

Well i had my doubts but they have been smashed, Ryzen is really an amazing cpu in almost every aspect! Well done AMD!!!
Too bad the 1700 wasn´t on the review, it´s the only one i really care.

Personally i ´m thinking about the possibility of buying a 1700 but seeing that every cpu returns the same performance in 1440p, it seems that after a certain point, more speed or more cores don´t matter... If that´s the case then i´m better buying the 7600K because i have no use for an 8 core cpu monster...

Also i´m a little disappointed by the lack of 4K benches but it seems we had some minor health issues not to mention a lack of time.

Great review as always!

That would depend on the air cooler quality really. I did check with the Noctua included in the kit and 4.0 GHz on all eight cores was running fine. I think i also had it at 4.1 GHz on air but have not done intensive testing on such frequencies. Temps where in the high seventies with voltage set at auto.
