I guess I should say the 9400f at 3.9 compared to the 7700k at 5ghz. Core count definitely is less, but Skylake scales very well.

I think when PC gamers finally realize that a/any modern processor+ a 2080ti/ +a 4k monitor equals the same result......
Just buy the graphics card and power supply to run it.....Crank It Up.
There is average fps and there is game experience. 4C/4T is stutter fest in quite some games for quite some time even with highly clocked intel's chips. And benchmarks really look similar to systems that do deliver fluid gaming.
Does someone remembers those unlocked Pentiums like G3258 being good gaming choice for budget system?
Then there were somewhat overclockable i3 2C/4T as good option.
Then there were i5s 4C/4T.
It all works well till it does not. So, if your 4C/8T does not stutter, you are fine. But I would put cash aside for new system with more cores as it is bound to happen sooner than later.

6c/12t seems to be the sweet spot today to have some cpu headroom not to be maxed out. I also dont like to close everything while playing. After seeing ps5 having 8c/16t that somewhat changed my mind to actually want more.

This is why my strong recommendation is the 3700x (3600 on budget). Intel would need to lower the 9900k to $380 to be attractive.

Isn’t 3600’s and the 9400f like the same all core boost? I know the 9400f hits like 3.9 all core I thought the 3600 was like 4.0.
