Who is Wavemaster?

Wavemaster is an audio specialist with its base in the EU (it's German - pun intended). They are offering audio gear like speaker kits to multi-channel kinda like SONOS does - but at much more attractive prices. They recently launched their CUBE mini series, a compact, quality 2.0 stereo speaker system with integrated amplifier that streams music from a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, laptop or tablet with pretty darn good audio quality. You guys know what a Sonos 2.0 kit costs right? This kit from Wavemaster however will cost you £89.90 / 119.95 Euro, thats incl. taxes though prices thus can vary per country. Also that is a suggested retail price, meaning we're sure you'll find a kit around the 100 EURO marker.

CUBE mini

  • Stereo bookshelf speaker system with Bluetooth streaming function for connecting to any kind of audio source (e.g. smartphone, TV, tablet, etc.)
  • Integrated amplifier with 36 Watts RMS total output power (including bass and treble control), can be connected to 3 audio sources simultaneously
  • Bluetooth-Streaming: the integrated Bluetooth module offers high quality audio streaming based on A2DP standard (compatible with Bluetooth 2.1)
  • Power saving eco-standby-function (less then 0,5 Watts during standby) and dedicated line-in for mobile audio sources such as smartphones and tablets
  • Connection: Bluetooth, 3,5 mm mini stereo plug or cinch. Works with TV, iPod/iPad, Mac/PC/Notebook or any other stereo source

The CUBE mini is a quality, amplified 2.0 stereo speaker system that lets you stream music from a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, laptop or tablet with superb clarity. The compact and stylishly designed speakers are extremely versatile, allowing you to connect to 3 different audio sources simultaneously. The acoustically dampened cabinets are fitted with high performance woofer/mid-range drivers, which provide exceptional audio reproduction. Setting up CUBE mini is quick and easy. Alongside its Bluetooth wireless capability, it is also supplied with long, tangle-free cables, giving you maximum set-up flexibility. CUBE's unique dual-electronic amplification design means that it deals with non-amplified sources like iPad/iPod/iPhone, PC, laptop, TV, CD and BluRay devices just as easily as powered sources. There is a dedicated line-in for mobile devices. With one eye on power-saving, CUBE mini has an intelligent standby feature that shuts your speakers down when not in use, but wakes instantly when an audio signal is detected.

The two compact sized 150 x 209 x 180 mm speaker units are made of acoustically damped MDF cabinet with black coloured coating and then fitted with a woofer/mid-range driver with cellulose cone and silk dome tweeter. The speakers can be linked to a stereo line-output RCA/Mini-Jack and you can connect remotely by Bluetooth (2.1) - now you have to forgive me, but you are reading an article on Guru3D.com so please let me show you some technology specs okay? Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength UHF radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz). While we already have Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.2, this kit uses the more standardized Bluetooth 2.1. The revision 2.x Bluetooth links can manage about 3 Mbit/s, although after error correction of many kinds the practical data transfer rate is 2.1 Mbit/s. Considering your average MP3 file is encoded at 128 up-to say 320 kbps there's plenty of bandwidth. Revision 2.1 added secure simple pairing (SSP). This improves the pairing experience for Bluetooth devices, while increasing the use and strength of security. But, Bluetooth 3 and higher is already at 24 Mbit/s.

Setting up CUBE mini is easy. Alongside its Bluetooth wireless capability, it is also supplied with long, tangle-free cables, giving you maximum set-up flexibility. CUBE mini’s unique dual-electronic amplification design, means that it deals with non-amplified sources like iPad/iPod/iPhone, PC, laptop, TV, CD and Blu-Ray devices just as easily as powered sources. There is a dedicated line-in for mobile devices. With an eye on power-saving, CUBE mini has an intelligent standby feature that shuts your speakers down when not in use, but wakes instantly when an audio signal is detected.
