Multi GPU FCAT

FCAT Frame Experience Analysis Multi-GPU

Per

But let's have a look at multi-GPU behaviour. Above a percentile chart of the 30 seconds @ 2560x1440. Here we plot FPS and place it in relation to percentiles. This methodology could be used to determine average FPS as well.

Check the 50% marker:

  • Radeon R9 295 does roughly 49 FPS on average in this scene sequence
  • GeForce GTX 780 Ti SLI does roughly 56 FPS on average in this scene sequence

But lets look at frame latency.

Plot

On this 30 second run both graphics cards manages to remain at a very constant rendering flow with fairly low latency for the two tested multi-GPU setups.

Both cards as you can see have huge spikes in latency, these are thee described stutters while on the road / crossing /passing cars / or your character jumping / making sudden moves. Once you drop your AA mode and give the cards more graphics memory, that effect will get better.

For those that do not understand what you are looking at, the above is a scene rendered, the first 30 seconds of our benchmark. With this chart, lower = better. Huge spikes above 40-50ms can be considered a problem like a stutter or indicate a low framerate.

The AMD Radeon R9 295 was doing better, very likely due to its larges graphics memory partitions. Mind you that these tests have been performed at Ultra quality. With the setups at High quality and High Texture quality settings the stutters will be way less. But yeah you are look at only 2xMSAA Ultra quality.
