At the top of the keyboard you'll spot some additional functionality in the form of the standard media keys like mute, volume, stop, play, forward backwards, internet browser and so on. There's also a button that starts up Windows Media Center.Unfortunately no programmable keys which is something I'm missing.
The mouse/trackball is laser tracked and extremely precise. You'll probably need to slow it down a little on mouse properties as it seems to be too sensitive at default settings.
This is the USB RF dongle. The good thing is that it has at least 30 foot / 10 meter range and the benefit of nor being IR based, is that you can use the keyboard in any angle in front of the television.
So installation could not be any simpler. Insert the batteries in the wireless keyboard, insert the USB dingle into a USB port. Now Windows XP/Vista/7 detects and binds the device -- and you are good to go. 100% plug and pray. There is no need for any software installation. Quick easy simple .. exactly what you want.
VidaBox vCase3 Premium tested - This chassis is a low profile mATX HTPC chassis with a great design at a reasonable price. Simple, basic, handy -- these are all keywords that apply to the overall design and looks of the vCase3 Premium. Especially in an era where we see form factors change a lot, a chassis like this in the living room can help out a lot. It blends in with the rest of your components really well, it can house the latest mATX motherboards. You can pop in a regular ATX power supply and well... you are good to go. Whether it is entry-level, mid-range or even if you pop in say a high-end ASUS Maximus II Gene with Core i7 870 processor -- it's all possible with this HTPC chassis.
