Final Words & Conclusion

The Verdict

The Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir is a fair and honest cooler. It's not priced insanely high, as we spotted it for 37 EUR already. It however isn't among the cheapest ones out there either.

In it's pure baseline performance (QX9770 @ 3200 with normal voltage) we experienced really nice temperatures. Even when we overclocked the processor to 3600 MHz it remained at fairly nice cooling levels.

As such the performance of the cooler is very good. Noise wise there's very little to complain about. Unless PWM takes the fan speed over 80% you'll hardly hear the cooler. After 80% rotation, you will hear airflow but even then, at a fairly decent level.

Installation wise I can not recommend manufacturers enough to start seeking mounting solutions for CPU cooler products that do not require removal of the motherboard. For example the push-pin system that Arctic cooling uses is brilliant. In our case with the TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir we ran into a secondary issue with the nForce 790 motherboard. There was not enough space around the CPU socket and we had to drill away a little material from the coolers retention bracket to make things fit. Stuff like that should not be possible in my honest opinion. But whether this is an issue related to NVIDIA's motherboard design, or in this case Titan .. remains to be a mystery. So while that is a very unique situation we had there, it should be something that needs to be improved.

That nag aside, the cooler is priced really fair in the EU alright, and as mentioned we spotted it for 37 EUR, and that sounds just about right in our ears. Next to that it looks good and it performs pretty well as well. And sure, once mounted in your PC and you leave the installation behind you, there is very little to dislike about this product.
