Final Words & Conclusion

Final Words & Conclusion

It’s time for the conclusion. Overall, the Seasonic SYNCRO Q704 is a nice mid-tower (well, it’s not so small after all) chassis. Alongside their Connect PSUs, this seems like a good step in the right direction. By running short cables from the Connect module to your motherboard, Seasonic has made a feature of the cables, and we can see this has the potential to look both interesting and appealing. The absolutely simple design paired with very simple cable management provides everything it needs for a tidy case.

The internal layout is not typical, as it’s an inverted ATX. This attitude should bring the GPU temps down (and it was like that in reality). The build quality is great. You get four high-quality fans (Nidec 120 mm) and a great PSU (available in three variants of power) with custom cables, so that should make the build look very nice. The main drawback is the price. But we'll come back to it in the verdict.

Features

There's enough space for up to 345 mm long GPUs, 185 mm tall CPU coolers, and 280 mm long. It’s possible to fit even the E-ATX board here. This is enough for typical builds. Storage-wise you'll have plenty of options in the form of three dedicated mounts for SSDs and two for 3.5"/2.5" drives. The liquid cooling capacity is great, and you can install a 360 mm rad on the front of the case, a 360 mm one at the top, a 120 mm one at the back. The I/O panel has a very standard set of two USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks, and power + reset buttons, but you can also find a USB 3.1 Type-C connector there – it's a very nice feature.

Aesthetics

Looks are always a subjective matter. The design of the new SYNCRO Q704 is very nice. It’s a rather classic one, and you get “only” one tempered glass panel. The front panel is made from aluminum, which makes it a bit of a premium product. This should be enough to show off your gear if you want to, but you need to remember that due to the inverted ATX, it’ll be visible on the right side.

Performance

Thanks to the three provided fans at the front, the temperatures are very good. The noise levels are not so good, unfortunately. But if you’ll slow them down, they still should provide a decent airflow and bring the temperatures (and noise) in a comfortable area.

 The Verdict

The Seasonic SYNCRO Q704 is an attractive (big as it’s 537 x 234 x 493 mm (L x W x H)) mid-tower chassis focused on delivering high quality. It’s an E-ATX motherboard compatible case, which allows the installation of a combo of 360 + 360 + 120 water cooling radiators or even a 185 mm high air-cooler. You can fit here up to five drives (three 2.5” + two 3.5”/2.5” bays). The installation of the parts went pretty smooth, but it’s better to connect the cables to the Connect module first before securing it to the chassis. The cable management is perfect, thanks to the custom cables provided for the included PSU. Also, the Connect module has a fan and aRGB hub, making the installation a breeze. The build quality is great, but you probably would expect that for the price. Speaking of it – it’s $309.99/€389. But you need to remember that the PSU has a ten years-long guarantee. What would we like more? For example, thumbscrews for the expansion ports, better access to the 3.5” tray? The cable of the rear fan to be longer, without a need to use the extension? Maybe it would be good to have the Connect module more compatible with some other chassis? The fans should have a lower range of rpm’s, as the minimum is about 900 (and max 2200). Even the 700-2000 would bring much improvement. Summing it up – it’s a great chassis that comes with some drawbacks (sometimes it’s a bit of nit-picking) and a huge price. Well, it’s an innovative product, so you also pay for that. We surely can recommend this chassis.
