On the top side, we can see a 120 mm thermally controlled fluid-dynamic-bearing fan.

The cooling fan is made by Globe Fan, and its model number is S1201512HB (120 mm, 12 V, 0.45). The fan is only 15 mm thick. The manufacturer’s website states that it has a plain sleeve bearing, but…  Seasonic said: “… it has come to our attention that the Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan inside the FOCUS SGX unit shares the same Safety Model Number with a Sleeve Bearing Fan”. So there’s no cause for concern.

The maximum rpm is rated at 2000, but it’s not loud even at about 75% load.

The dimensions are 125×1125×63.5mm (W × L × H), which is typical for the SFX standard. Seasonic’s PSU is built with 100% Japanese, 105℃ capacitors, providing the highest reliability, and that’s the reason why they offered a 10-year warranty (so it’s very good as Corsair offers also 10 for their high-end products, and Seasonic even 12 years from the Prime series).

As for the cables, the supplied ones are sufficient in terms of number and (for most users of small systems) length as well. The 24-pin ATX motherboard cable is 35 cm long. The Molex and SATA power cables are 60-70 cm, whereas the 8-pin ATX CPU power cable is 40 cm long, which is great for small systems. Last but not least, the PCIe graphics leads reach a very modest 50 cm. Obviously, all of these cables are modular, so you won’t have to plug in the ones that you don’t need in your system, reducing cable clutter in your PC. You can connect up to six SATA devices, three Molex devices, and two graphics cards with two PCI-E connectors each (four in all!). Suffice it to say that if these connectors are not enough for you, then your system is not going to look much like a mini-ITX configuration (which is the type of chassis in which SFX-L power supplies are used 99% of the time). According to the manufacturer, we should find quality components inside, so let's open it up.

Inside, there are only high-end Japanese capacitors certified for 105°C. We can also clearly see that the Focus SGX is a platform that is very similar to the Focus Gold + ATX "classic" variant, with small changes introduced to compensate for the smaller space. Soldering quality is well above average, although there are a few rougher spots on the main PCB. The internal layout is very dense, but thanks to the double-sided soldering of the main PCB there is enough room for all of the components. Most of the internal capacity of the unit is taken up by step-down transformers for the 12, 5, and 3.3 V lines, as well as a high-voltage, 3300 μF capacitor. The input filter is literally clamped between the socket for the power cable and the 12 V transformer, but despite this all the necessary components have been soldered into it successfully. Diode bridges (converting AC to DC) are cooled by their own aluminum radiator. Another aluminum radiator cools the power transistors. The electronic components of the 12 V rectifier are located on the back of the PCB.
