The Monitor

So, we received this CHG70 series monitor a while ago, I took my time to really spend some time with it before writing this review. The Samsung C32HG70 monitor can be found under multiple SKU product codes depending on your region, ours are C32HG70, LC32HG70, LC32HG70QQU, LC32HG70QQUXE, LC32HG70QQUXEN. Let me first state that the model we received is a final retail sample.

The C32HG70 series offers a rather massively sized 32" display and is among the first of its kind to feature support for AMD's FreeSync 2 adaptive refresh rate technology in combination with HDR, LFC and a high refresh rate of 144Hz. The local dimming (8 zones) panel is based on VA technology. The display recreates colors across over 125% of the sRGB color space, with an Adobe RGB gamut rated at Typ 92%, Min 88%.

A quick note; if you're thinking of purchasing a FreeSync 2 monitor then make sure your Radeon graphics card is compatible, basically anything newer than the AMD Radeon RX 4xx and the new APU Ryzen based processors (Vega) and newer cards will support FreeSync 2 and thus HDR. For FreeSync(2) to work, obviously an AMD Radeon is mandatory. However, HDR obviously also works with supported GeForce cards, just not Adaptive-Sync and LFC. We do assume you've got the proper gear already. The monitor arrives in a large, full-color box. Included are cables (HDMI/DP/USB) and a manual.

So, a VA screen might not be the favorite type of panel for some, others love it. However one cannot deny the fact that this one is capable of 144Hz, HDR and is Wide Quad HD (2560x1440), the advantages are clear, especially with adaptive sync in mind. Above, we just mounted the stand, a super handy one which we'll talk about in a minute.

And yes, after you power on the monitor, the blue aura of light emanates from that point. Don't worry, you can turn it off through the OSD if you want to do so. Also, this is the backside, so you'll be hard-pressed to notice it at all really.

The monitor has an acclaimed 1ms response time. Built with ABS plastic, the characteristic identity that Samsung offers means a trendy foot adorns this monitor. The C32HG70 makes use of a design that clearly appeals to the target audience, PC gamers. There is a fairly large and thick plastic bezel though. The monitor includes two HDMI and one DisplayPort connector as well as a USB 3.0 hub, which unfortunately is hard to reach.

This is the foot, flipped around. Extremely handy and it brings very minimalistic looks to the monitor. The monitor can be adjusted to different positions, that is a refined monitor arm that can easily move the screen without moving the foot. The screen is very easy to position in the ideal position. Something that is very nice. The gap that you can see, you can lead cables to, there obviously is a cover provided.
