Introduction

Sabrent Rocket NVMe4 2TB M2 SSD (B47/2022 )
Breaching 7 GB/sec
M.2.Class SSD performance for a mainstream price

Sabrent recently updated the Rocket 4 PLUS M.2 NVMe SSD series, the NVMe 1.4 storage unit is set to shatter records as it passes 7 GB/sec in reads and a number close to that in writes. But actually, it's now even faster thanks to B47 based firmware. Rocket 4 Plus B47 SSDs, which provide a substantial increase in performance over the previous generation. In fact, the new B47 flash will be used in all of the Rocket 4 Plus SSDs going forward.

Together with the high-speed PS5018-E18 controller, this tiny rocket of an SSD appears to have the potential to become one of the most intriguing SSDs we've examined in a long time. Of course, if you enjoy the durability and extreme PCIe 4.0 performance levels, this is the M2 SSD for you. In the United States, Sabrent is a firm that has been attempting to provide notable solid-state drives (SSDs) to the market for quite some time, and they've been expanding their operations into the European Union. These products are mostly available for purchase through Amazon; in fact, the SSD under consideration today is available for 309 USD/EUR for 2TB. That figure, when rounded up, comes to around 15 cents per GB. And although that may appear to be a little on the expensive side for NAND storage these days, keep in mind that this is a TLC written NVMe SSD that has been equipped with Phison's fastest Phison E18 controller, which is capable of wreaking havoc on your storage array.

As you are aware, Sabrent provides TLC and QLC-based devices, both of which we evaluated in PCIe Gen 3 and Gen 4 flavors, respectively. However, if you are looking for top-notch high-performance at a reasonable price, this PCIe Gen 4 x4 M2 device may be just what you are looking for. The Rocket 4 PLUS is available in a variety of capacity configurations. There's the 2TB model we tested, as well as a 1 GB model and, shortly, a 4TB variant (749 USD), among other options. Sabrent is claiming write speeds of up to 7100 MB/s and read speeds of up to 6600 MB/s for these M2 SSDs. They provide a legitimate 5-year warranty (you do need to register your product for that). TBW (TeraBytes Written) is the total amount of data that a business is prepared to guarantee that it can be written to the drive. The 1 TB model received 700 TBW, while the tested 2-terabyte drive received an accurate 1400 TBW.

The specifications are impressive, but will this SSD be able to deliver on its promises with the new B47 firmware update? The SSD is built on the popular 8-channel Phison PS5018-E18 controller and, of course, is equipped with Micron's TLC written NAND. The performance will vary significantly based on the volume size; nonetheless, the larger the capacity, the faster the performance. The SSD is an M.2 2280 form factor SSD using Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe 1.4) technology. These days, the performance statistics that a decent SATA3 SSD can deliver are just amazing, but with the more specialized NVMe SSDs, you can boost performance by 14x, which results in some quite impressive numbers. The device has a smaller M.2 2280 form factor (8cm), which means it will fit on the majority of ATX motherboards that support M.2. Anyway, are you interested in seeing how quick it truly is?
