How long have you been a member of Guru3D forums?

Since April of 03!

What did you first come here for?

I came to find out how to make my rig better and look to see the best of the best in modified cases, video cards etc.

What do you mainly use the system for?

My computer is used for Heavy Gaming, Video editing, Sound editing, VHS to DVD conversions and for show.

How much did you spend on the rig?

Starting in late 2003 till now Ive spent over $1400 US Dollars on it. This cost also includes 2 monitor upgrades and 3 speaker upgrades.

How often do you update/buy a new rig?

I upgrade my rig every 2 years or so when prices are affordable to get the best. I Never really buy a complete rig. I upgrade as I go and as needed.

What components are used?

Mobile Athlon XP 2400 @ 2.21ghz Load: 46c Idle: 37c W/ Thermaltake Volcano 12 extreme
2x512mb Twinmos PC3200
Abit NF7(non-sata)
PNY Geforce FX5900XT @407/725

Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel/AMD?

I decided to choose Nvidia due to the better driver support and AMD for the cost effectiveness. I was building on a limited budget and need a quick yet not a break the bank rig.

Does the system work as expected?

Ive only had minor instances of problems - most of them were XP related or were caused by my stupidity. Aside from minor skirmishes the PC has been quite reliable.

What's the best part of your rig?

The best part of my rig is the Case. Since I is a LANBOY is light, not too big and easy to work in at least for me.

What sucks and should not have been bought?

The worst thing I bought was the FX5200 256m card I bought for $140. It was the biggest waste of a pay check. Also at one point I bought cheapo SpecTek DDR Ram and that crippled my system for 3 months. I could not even run a program for 4 minutes without a memory error.

Modified cases/video cards/other? Did you do it yourself? Walk us through it.

For right now, everything is STOCK. The only real thing I did was ADD a TEXAS longhorn logo to  the side of my case.

3DMark scores?

3dmark 01se: 14,988 (as of 5-5-05)
3dmark03: 4,736 (as of 4-28-05)
Aquamark: 38,134 (as of 5-7-05)

Future upgrades?

I plan to upgrade my Processor to a AMD Athlon 64 3200 or up and sticking with another ABIT board or go with the MSI NEO. As far as video goes, 6800 GT or Ultra will be my next choice when the prices come down enough.

History of my rig:

Starting in September of 2003 I got my first real rig together with a mismatch of parts; DFI AK75-EC and Duron 700mhz, Geforce 2 MX 100 w/64mb, 512mb stick of PC133, and a Maxtor 60gb. Then in December of that same year I upgraded to an ASUS A7V8x-x and a AXP 2200 which I over clocked to 2.0 ghz. At that time also I got a FX5200 256mb and a Seagate160gb hard drive, which still is in my current PC. I was using a Enlight Case, cant remember the model. But since being the temperature minded person I am, I got a Chieftec Dragon to reduce my temperatures. I purchased a coolermaster Muskateer. In March of 2004 sold my board, CPU and memory. I then purchased a Mobile XP 2400, 2x256mb Spectek PC2700, and Shuttle An35n-ultra. Finally in September of 04 I got my 5900se which greatly improved my gaming. Then in November I got the ABIT NF7 to help my over clock to get to 2.2ghz. At that time I also needed drive space so I got  120gb Seagate.
