DX11: Alien Versus Predator - Metro 2033 - The Last Refuge

DX11: Alien Versus Predator

As with many of the already released DirectX 11 benchmarks, the Aliens vs. Predator DirectX 11 benchmark leverages your DirectX 11 hardware to provide an immersive game play experience through the use of DirectX 11 Tessellation and DirectX 11 Advanced Shadow features. In Aliens vs. Predator, DirectX 11 Geometry Tessellation is applied in an effective manner to enhance and more accurately depict HR Gigers famous Alien design. Through the use of a variety of adaptive schemes, applying tessellation when and where it is necessary, the perfect blend of performance and visual fidelity is achieved with at most a 4% change in performance. Your DirectX 11 hardware also allows for higher quality, smoother and more natural looking shadows as well.

DirectX 11 Advanced Shadows allow for the rendering of high-quality shadows, with smoother, artifact-free penumbra regions, which otherwise could not be realized, again providing for a higher quality, more immersive gaming experience.

You can try the benchmark yourself, download here.

We measure in 1920x1200 at 4xAA and 16X anisotropic filtering to more heavily stress the graphics cards being tested and all image quality settings have been set to the highest possible with the help of a customized configuration file.

AVP is a title that we have configured and setup for merely 1920x1200, hence no other resolutions and check that out. Each score was the same, even the cheapest processor did not have an effect on the Benchmark results.

DX11: Metro 2033 - The Last Refuge

Metro 2033 is about a horrible post-apocalyptic world of 40000 people. They have been living in the metro of a big ex-USSR city Moscow, for 20 terrible years. Nuclear war destroyed their homeland. These people are the last representatives of mankind - the human cycle of evolution nears its end, new species (very ugly) appear on the surface of the Earth and deep inside the metro. Some people inside the metro still remember the happy years before THAT DAY and they still believe that one day they will return to the surface. Whats present is a very heavy psychological atmosphere: small children who will never see sky, old people who still remember the PAST times, and young men and women who fight for their world, for their children. Each station became a country, with its government, army, borders and many other things from the past. Firearms cartridges serve as currency. This small dying world is a precise copy of the past big world. Do these humans have a future, or are they doomed to extinction? Maybe answers can be found on the surface, or in deep secret military underground laboratories. Who knows?

We measure things in DX11 mode and have AAA anti-aliasing activated which is roughly the software equivalent of 4xMSAA.

Metro is obviously massively GPU limited, hence a difference processor matters less. At 1920x1200 it does show a bit of a difference with the faster processor, I honestly did not expect that with this title. The differences are marginal but measurable though.
