Final words and conclusion

The Radeon HD 7950 update with Boost functionality definitely is interesting, opposed to the 800 MHz clocked reference product you'll see a 5 to 10% performance benefit. But really it's just that ...

Radeon HD 7950 Crossfire

Most of you will have their cards overclocked in or over the 1 GHz region already as the cards all can easily take that. Then the rest will all have factory overclocked products running beyond that 925 MHz range as well. So for these two categories honestly the new Radeon HD 7950 with Boost won't have an incremental performance effect or be at all significant.

We do find the new Boost function interesting though, the higher 925 MHz clock frequency definitely helps bringing a little more performance.

In AMD's briefing we notice that the R7950 BOOST cards will be available from August 16 and onwards, what an incredibly coincidental date that is. It's now one day later August 17, just one AIC partner has 'announced' this product and there is NIL availability. Well, at least you now have an idea of where the competition will be in terms of performance. But that's all we can say about that really.

The R7950 BOOST graphics cards should be available as separate SKU in the stores and should be priced similar to the 'old' model which is roughly 349 EUR. It you have a 100% reference based model with a device ID of 679A, we are sure you'll find a firmware update that will activate this function for free for you.

Who doesn't like a little free extra performance ... right ?
