You spotted it already, the card needs juice alright. The R700 needs one 6-pin PCIe power connector and one 8-pin connector. Mind you that the power connectors are seated at the front side of the PCB. Due to the sheer length of the card AMD did not want to have the connectors seated at the rear.

So here we see the backside of the product with the metal shim removed. You can clearly see the visible memory chips now.

Once we strip the cooler away completely we spot a much more detailed graphics cards / PCB. The chip in the middle is the interconnect PCIe bridge chip we mentioned earlier on in the article. It functions as a direct interconnect in-between the two GPUs.

I didn't even have time to fully prep a nicely build PC, but this will do just fine, and yes ... that's what a reference CrossfireX setup would look like.
