The Verdict

The Radeon HD 4830 is once again one of these fun product that offers a lot of value for the money. Fact is that for 129 USD you get to play your games at very decent image quality settings, framerates and resolutions. Sure it's not the uber-high-end performance one can expect from a high-end card, but it's by far a fun and sufficient card that you'll like very much. Overclock it a little and you are seeing Radeon HD 4850 performance pretty easily.

Thanks to it's price there's a multitude of uses for it. I could see it as a very fun HTPC card, but also in a mid-range PC for some pretty decent gaming at 1280x1024 this card seems to manage itself just fine and even at 1600x1200 most games will run perfectly good as well with some pretty snazzy image quality settings. The 4830 offers double the performance of the HD 4670 and in this price-segment, that's just pretty frickin' nice.

Again what's nice to see are the advanced power states that ATI has been working on hard even since series 4000 was released. See, this card only utilizes more power when it's actually needed. While working in desktop mode I noticed my rig utilizing 150 Watts, considering this is a pretty high-end system that's just an okay figure, there is still room for more improvement here though.
Pop in a Blu-ray disc and the GPU can decode and enhance the movie for you, it'll even send 8 channel sound to your receiver or HD screen. Games wise you cannot ignore the fact that playing most modern games with very high image quality settings at 1280x1024 will not be a problem whatsoever. And as mentioned, most games will play fine at very decent framerates at higher resolutions as well.

guru3d-recommended_150px.jpgFor a very large chunk of you guys, your budget is somewhere in-between 100 and 150 USD, or just over 110 EUR, and that's exactly where this product positions itself. If that is your maximum budget, there's nothing I can say to keep you from purchasing this product. You'll enjoy what it does for the money.

The HIS Radeon 4830 GDDR3 512MB is definitely recommend by Guru3D.com, and it doesn't break the bank either. Which is something we all like in the current financial state of the world. You know that feeling when you just had a good meal, you're full, yet ...always feel there's that little room for some desert? That's AMD right now. With this product from top to bottom ATI positioned itself truly strong in the graphics card market for 2008. Impressive to say at the least.
