So it's time to have a closer look at the products. Below you can spot the reference Radeon HD 6950 and 6970.

Both cards are reference, coming directly from AMD, as you can observe the cards are 100% the same build wise, including cooling, length and connectivity.

Both cards come with two DisplayPort 1.2 connectors, one HDMI 1.4a connector and two DVI connectors of which one is single (up-to monitor resolution 1920x1200) and the other dual-link (2560x1600 and even higher). 

Both cards are roughly 27 CM in length, the photo makes the R6970 look smaller, but again... the cards are 100% similar down to the build and cooling. The R6950 will be clocked at 800 MHz on the graphics domain and 5000 MHz (effective data-rate) on the GDDR5 memory. The R6970 on its end will be clocked at 880 MHz with that memory running at 5500 MHz (effective data-rate). Both cards are equipped with a massive 2048 MB of graphics memory. This card comes with a 6+2+1+1 phase digital PWM voltage regulation design.

If you count along with me, five connectors, up-to four can be used in Eyefinity mode with one card. Small tip - if you have a very high resolution monitor at 2560x1600 and connect your card to the single link connector, your resolution could be limited to ~1280x1024 or something close. Hence you should use the dual-link connector to have the full 2560x1600 resolution available. This of course only applies to the two DVI connectors.
