Meet the Haswell slash Pentium flagship processor, this is the Pentium G3258. Familiar looking alright, processor package size wise. The processor is obtained through retail, yet an ES Intel engineering sample showing the code-name QGCK ES.

These processors are housed on the LGA1150 socket package, an all too familiar CPU socket as it is the same one as Z87/Z97 uses. The good news is that your processor coolers will all fit perfectly on this CPU. Both chipset obviously will work fine with the new refresh processors, be sure that you have proper BIOS support though. For the K model  SKUs you do need a very specific BIOS update, please check with your motherboard manufacturer if your board will be supported (or not).

For our review we will be pairing the Pentium G3258 processor with a Z97 motherboard, the ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark 1. Intel does not manufacture reference motherboards anymore for the consumer market.
