Final Words & Conclusion

If you are not in the market for an truly expensive highly efficient model power supply with all whistles and bells like safe guard, flashing LEDs but simple want a honest decent efficiency stable PSU, well then the PSU tested today will be a nice alternative. The market is tough and stiff though.

Efficiency wise we did expect to see slightly better numbers as the PSU hints mode more towards a 80+ certification rather then a 80+ Bronze certification if you compare it to other 80+ power supplies. However with our PSU reviews we are always the first to state that our review remains somewhat subjective with our real-world test approach.

Test methods wise we say our test is valid, as it is precisely the kind of load you guys would apply to a PSU like this. Scientifically, however the tests are less precise and that's fair enough.

If we look at other factors like noise, well there hardly is any, so even in a HTPC this PSU model would functions really well. During all the stress test we didn't notice any real heat either, at best under hefty gaming consuming 500W it might get lukewarm, that's it really as there simply is plenty of ventilation available.

Some love yet some frown upon the lack of modular cables. Personally I adore modular cables on power supplies as you get to use the cables that you need. So there's no spaghetti swarm of cabling inside the PSU killing the cool looks. Then again, a lot of people have a closed PC, so you can see that spaghetti of wires either.

Connectors wise there's plenty available, although we would have preferred two 6/8pin PCIe PEG graphics power connectors on the 650 model opposed to one 6/8 and one 6 pin connector. The cabling is overall lengthy enough and it should otherwise not be an issue to reach any of the components even with a big-tower chassis. The peripheral connectors could have been longer though. Meaning Molex and SATA power cables are 60~70cm maximum, we feel 80-90 cm for the most remote located connector should be the minimum.guru3d-recommended_150px.jpg

In the end backed by a three year warranty really it's hard to go wrong with this product. At 65 EUR / USD the 650W ZS offers decent bang for buck and it's simply a respectable power supply from OCZ. It is just that though, a run of the mill product. If you spot it slightly more expensive, then the competition will probably have a better offerings. But yeah, we can definitely recommended it at 65 USD/EUR as it seems to be a well balanced price for what you get.
