The Verdict

You know, I think that if you purchase a PSU with a bit of a brand name stamped on top of it, that it probably can't be really bad. I doubt any really bad 2008 PSU's still even exist. It's no different with the OCZ Technology ModXtream PRO. From what we can tell it's a fine power supply. You get a nice dark black look, great cooling, modular options and we figure, very stable voltages. OCZ is offering the product at roughly 69 EUR / 89 USD and tops it off with a 3 year warranty.

What I like the most though is the proclaimed high efficiency, an efficiency of roughly 86% at normal power consumption, it might be even a tad higher yet we do not have numbers on that available. So not only does it save on energy consumption and thus mother nature, but when you think about it .. also you power bill. You have your modability, efficiency and the nice aesthetics. The cables themselves are nicely sleeved in black wrapping.

Also very welcome is the sheer silence of this PSU. It's just very classy as we measured ~31-32 DBa in our test room. And I pretty much had to move my ears over the PSU to be able to hear it. Obviously with heavy load the 140mm fan will rotate faster but even then, it's unlikely you'll be able to hear it.

guru3d-recommended_150px.jpgThe one dislike that I had is the lack of PCIe graphics connectivity. This is an SLI certified power supply with 25 AMPs per 12V rail. Yet only one 6-pin and one 8-pin header can be found on this SLI certified product. So let's say that you have two GeForce 9800 GTX+ cards, then you'd need 4x one 6-pin connector. This PSU supplies two. As a result you'd be forced to using Molex to 6-pin power converter cables (delivered with your graphics card), yet .. they look so shitty. So that is the one thing I would have liked to see different. It's quite frankly the only neg I could find though. Other then that, for the money you receive a good quality PSU with modular sleeved cables, fine performance and efficient output. The large mesh and 140mm fan keep it cool and in-audible.

It's an easy to use, understand and connect (modular) power supply, so I do not see any major downside to this product. Therefore it comes recommended.
